Knowing God doesn't mean trying to be a good person or even going to church. It means accepting the free gift of forgiveness and eternal life made possible by Jesus' death and resurrection.
You do NOT need to do steps or perform rituals in order to know the Creator of the Universe. He is relational - as it states in Jeremiah 29:13..."You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
Religion tells you what to do and how to do things related to God. Religion keeps a tight hold on you and chokes the life out of relationships. Religion adds burdens to our walk with God. Drop your religion and seek God.
There is only ONE road to God and that is through Jesus Christ. John 14:6 states “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
P.S. - be sure you turn to the Jesus of the Bible, not to a Jesus created by religion. This means the following religions have the WRONG version of Jesus and therefore will lead you astray: Latter Day Saints, Jehovah Witnesses, and Islam to name a few. There are many other religions that have the wrong version - be sure you compare a religion's Jesus to the Jesus of the Bible.
God's gift of Grace does not cost you a thing.
Jeremiah 29:13 states that if you seek God with all your heart, you will find Him. Ask Him yourself if Jesus is the way - He will show you.
The Bible was written plainly for ordinary people to understand. Dive in to understand what God wants for you in your life.
As a Christian, we are called to be doers of the Word. Put them into practice and become a different person.
Religion (following man's recipe to God) can be very dangerous if defined by humans. If we follow the Word of God, we can draw close to God through Jesus. ,
There are many different versions of Jesus - the Mormons (LDS), Jehovah Witnesses and Muslims all have different versions of Jesus. Make sure you are praying to the Jesus of the Bible - the One who died for us on the Cross and was resurrected on the 3rd day, the Son of God.
Getting to Heaven can only be done ONE way and that is through Jesus Christ. We cannot get to Heaven based on our own works and self-righteousness. God does not want you to brag about you getting yourself to Heaven.
We do not enter God's presence by being a good person. Being good is very subjective. We can each define what is "good" in our lives. God is the very definition of Good and offers His gift of Grace through Jesus, but we must go through Jesus in order to enter the presence of God.
